On the Other Side of Perfection

I woke up this morning and graded a set of essays. As I looked up from the pile of papers, I had an hour and a little bit to get ready and go to school. I thought about my options and at first I figured it was just take a shower, get ready, and drive. I felt mentally tired from reading and grading and knew that the antidote to that weariness was movement.

perfection is the enemy of creation

With little time to spare, I decided a short run to the park and back would help. And I did. I put on my running shoes and took off. Altogether I ran 2 miles, worked up a sweat, felt the warmth of the morning air, and got home on time to shower, dress quickly, and drive to school.

Luckily, school is 10 minutes away so I got there with a couple of minutes to spare.
Why am I sharing this bit of my morning today? I thought about how often we don’t decide to move or exercise because we feel we lack time to get a good work-out, run, or yoga session.

The comfort of perfection too often gets in the way of actually doing anything. This is true of all creative activities. If we have an all or nothing mindset, we often end up with nothing. Perfection is the enemy of creation!

Whatever you are doing today, we hope you find the small openings on the other side of perfection and move a little more than you did yesterday. Becoming healthier is a complex process and little steps go a long way.
