The Green Challenge

We are excited to announce a 12-week challenge starting February. The challenge is all about eating more greens, celebrating community, and embracing possibility.

The idea came to us as we spoke to Moses Kashem at the St. Simon’s Farm not too far from our house. Moses has created a beautiful organic farm in the middle of Westchester, on the property of a small Episcopal Church where I proposed to Maribel on a cool Christmas Eve service back in 1991.

Moses found the church and land through the same grace and serendipity, maybe the same thing, that Maribel and I found each other.

At the end of this month, the farm will begin generating enough produce to serve up to 60 families. The plan is to sell shares of the harvest and each week shareholders pick up their box full of locally grown, organic produce. We are partnering with the farm as a way to encourage healthier eating. Maribel will be creating weekly recipes for each box of produce and sharing these with you. We know that one of the most important things we can do to improve our health is to ingest more fresh pesticide-free greens full of phytonutrients. Our partnership with the St. Simon’s Farm will definitely get us closer to this goal. We will also offer yoga on Sundays at the farm from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm!

If you participate, you will pick up a box full of produce which will change as the season evolves. Pick up will take place at the church (10950 SW 34th Street) or our house. Each week there will be enough produce for a generous delicious stir fry, greens for a big salad along with cucumbers, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, radishes, turnips, and eggplants. The cost for the 12-weeks of fresh greens is $300. The farm is providing a 15% discount to the Miami Firm Body community.

Let us know if you’re in by either leaving us a comment on this post, calling or texting us your questions to 305.403.9542. We would like to have a good sense of who will be participating by no later than Monday, January 22.

Share with friends!

In love,

Carlos and Maribel
