Points of Grace and Strength

It’s been six weeks since my bicycle accident. Thankfully, my recovery is coming along well. I woke up today noticing that my nerve pain to my hand has diminished some. The small shift reminded me that nothing ever stays the same. We live in a world of constant change. As silly as it sounds, the first question I asked my surgeon six weeks ago before going under was whether I would be able to do a downward facing dog again. His initial response was maybe. We would need to see in the months to come. His answer was sobering to me. For a moment I saw something I loved so deeply in jeopardy.

Coming back home, I’ve had to modify extensively and practice with some deep limitations. Practicing this way has been a powerful gift in many ways. My yoga community has been so gracious. (I thought, “Who would want to take a yoga class from a broken arm middle-aged teacher?” The answer has been heart warming: Everyone who was showing up before!) As I’ve returned to teaching, I’m now more curious than ever on how we can work on our limitations and transform these into points of grace and strength. My broken arm continues to be a great teacher.

Join me tonight for an hour or so of yoga practice. My broken arm is a wonderful reminder that with the right mindset we can move ahead and develop our strength and courage to live our lives fully, in gratitude, and in love. If you have never tried yoga, don’t hesitate to reach out. This practice can change your life for the better.
