Costly to Body and Self

Change is something we resist. It makes sense. Change is often costly to the body and self. Resisting or avoiding rapid change seems instinctual or protective. As I’ve gotten older, I can see this more clearly. I often do things a certain way because it has worked in the past. When confronted with a different way, I may look at the alternative suspiciously.

Is there a connection between this resistance to change and the loss of physical flexibility that often accompanies age? Practicing yoga has made me much more aware of this and has encouraged me to explore the relationship between the body and the mind, the physical limitations of the body and those that I often impose on myself because of habit.

How about you? How are you working with the desire for greater flexibility?
