Don’t Let Today’s Turmoil Bring You Down

The American Journal of Psychiatry recently published the results of an 11 year study of over 33,000 adults on the effects of exercise on depression. The findings are not surprising.

Breaking a sweat and doing so with others has profound benefits. During these difficult times, especially during these times, don’t shut yourself out of your body. Get moving. Do it for yourself and everyone who is rooting for you.

Regular leisure-time exercise of any intensity provides protection against future depression but not anxiety. Relatively modest changes in population levels of exercise may have important public mental health benefits and prevent a substantial number of new cases of depression.
