Can yoga help with heigthened anxiety due to COVID-19?

I’ve been meaning to share this page for a couple of weeks now. It’s an announcement for an eight-week research study on whether meditation and yoga can alleviate pandemic induced anxiety and depression. I don’t know what the results of the study will be, but I can say that the challenges of this past year have been made a little bit more bearable because I have practiced with you.

Knowing that you will be on my little Zoom squares every Monday and Thursday has provided an anchor of sorts this year. I suspect that the Columbia study will probably find benefits to yoga and meditation. I don’t know if the study will be able to compare doing yoga and meditation on your own (asynchronously) or doing yoga and meditation together with other people (synchronously). My suspicion is that when you add a community component to the yoga and meditation practice, you augment the positive effects of the practice itself.

This is what we have been doing since March of last year! Thank you for showing up and supporting this work. We meet tonight as usual. Invite a friend.
