Falling Apart & Coming Together

Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.

-Pema Chödron, When Things Fall Apart

Greetings to everyone. The quote that starts this message comes from the book that we will be reading during our meditation class that starts January 11.

The message is simple and one that is the basis for our six weeks of study and practice.

This moment, just as good or shitty as it is, is the best to be and to wake up to the fullness of who we are.

The course will introduce the basics of mindfulness meditation and get you started on a practice that has been shown to provide many practical benefits.

Here’s a partial list of them:

  • Reduces stress
  • Helps manage anxiety
  • Enhances self-awareness
  • Lengthens attention span
  • May help with age related memory loss
  • Can generate greater kindness
  • May help address addictive behaviors
  • Improves sleep
  • Helps with pain management
  • May decrease high blood pressure

If you are wondering what 2022 will bring, the course will not help you in that regard. It will, however, introduce you to a tool that will be useful as you deal with whatever comes your way.
